Friday January 3, 2003: Three Hour Detour at Failte Coffee House, Hopewell, NJ -  7 -10 pm, 3 sets, great sandwitches, coffee, dessert, chess, and atmosphere. (609) 466-6681. This is a pretty mellow coffee house, but if we get enough of "our following" we will crank it up and rock the house. Cover charge is whatever you put in the basket when we pass it. Directions here.

Directions to Selected Venues

Down to Earth Coffee House N.J. Tpk. Exit 5 (or I-295 Exit 47A - Rt. 541-Burlington/Mt. Holly). From the Turnpike, go through toll booth to light at Rt. 541. Turn right (541 South) to Mt. Holly. Rt. 541 becomes High St. when you enter Mt. Holly "city". Down to Earth is just past the 5th traffic light from Turnpike (at the Mount Holly Pharmacy) on your right, #82 (it is a small store front).

If you can't park on High Street, turn right on Rancocas Rd. 50 yds., on left, is city parking. Walk back up to High St., turn right, and Down to Earth Coffeehouse is a couple store fronts down on your right. There may be parking along High St. available depending on time of day. The Saint is at 601 Main Street, Asbury Park, NJ. Take the Garden State Parkway to New Jersey Rt. 33. take Rt. 33 East all the way to the end. Make a left turn here, you are now going north on Rt. 71 (Main St.). After about 5 lights, The Saint will be on your left, #601, on the corner of Main and Monroe. It is right next to the Razzle Dazzle Laundrimat (but don't park there).(732) 775-9144

Ebeneezer's Coffee House, Medford , located at the Taunton Forge Shopping Center, at the intersection of Taunton and Tuckerton roads, Medford, N.J. (609)797-6550. Direcitons: Take either I-295 or the Turnpike to NJ route 73. Get off on Rt 73 South. Take it for a few miles to the circle with Rt 70, and Get on Rt. 70 East (3/4 of the way around the circle). After the highway is no longer divided (about a mile), make a right at the first light. This road will wind around, past a utilities buildng. After a short distance, make a left at the first traffic light. This is the corner with the Assembly of God. Follow this road east (which runs parallel to 70) for a few miles, until you see the Taunton Forge Shopping Center on your right (at a major intersection) go into the shopping center, past the grocery store and find Ebineezers, in a strip of stores to the left of the Gazebo.

Ebineezer's Coffee House, Mount Laurel, is at the intersection of NJ route 38 and Larchmont Blvd in Mt. Laurel. Take I-295 to NJ 38 East. Go East, at the third traffic light, Larchmont Blvd, use the jughandle to make a left turn. If you hit Ark Rd., you went too far. As you drive on 38, the coffee house is in a strip mall on your left.(609) 866-1001.

Gryphon Cafe is at 105 W Lancaster Ave Wayne, PA (610) 688-1988. Directions: Take I-476 (South if you're coming from PA Turnpike or the Schuykill, North if you're coming from 95) Get off on Route 30 going West. (Lancaster Avenue). Drive into the center of Wayne, about a mile from 476. The biggest intersection in Wayne is Wayne Avenue. The Gryphon is just across N. Wayne Avenue, and just before the movie theatre, on the right side of the street.

Parking: There is some parking right in front of the place. Also, there is lots of parking if you turn right on N. Wayne Avenue both on the street and in a parking lot about half a block after you turn.

The Lion Fish is on 614 N. 2nd Street Philadelphia. From I-95, take the exit marked Calowhill. Bear to the right, so that you get on Calowhill Street going west. Make a right turn on 3rd, take it past Spring Garden, until you make a right on Brown, and then a right onto 2nd Street. Proceed south for a block and a half until you see the Lion Fish on your right. If you hit Spring Garden again, you went too far. There is ample and safe parking in this neighborhood (215) 829-9103.

If these directions sound complicated, just keep in mind that the Lion Fish is on Second Street, just north of the intersection with Spring Garden street; and Second Street is a one way street going south. If you are coming from the Ben Franklin Bridge, get off at the first opportunity, head north till you pass Spring Garden, work your way back towards the river until you reach Second Street, and then come back south. They now have a web page!

The Mermaid Inn - is at 7673 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA (Chestnut Hill) Get off of the PA Turnpike exit 25 (Norristown) and get on the Germantown Pike south. Take it for about 6 miles, until you get into the Chestnut Hill area where it becomes Germantown Ave. (you'll go by Chestnut Hill College). The Mermaid is on your left, set back from the street at the corner of Mermaid Ave and Germantown Ave. There is a dance studio right before it. (215)-247-9797.

Orion Studios, Baltimore MD - Directions by car: -Take I-95 to exit 50, Caton Ave. (Just inside the south west side of the 695 beltway) -Take Caton Ave south to the third traffic light and turn left onto Washington Blvd -Go 1/4 mile up the hill to the U-Haul sign and turn right onto Inverness. -At the end of Inverness, turn left onto Whittington Ave. -Go to the end of the street and turn right into the parking lot at 2903 Whittington, in the Whittington Business Center. -You'll see the door to Orion is on the right side.(410)-646-7334. Cosmic Bean: 537 Farmington Ave, Hartford, CT. Take I-84 to exit 46 (Sisson Ave). Right turn on to Sisson. At the T, turn left on Farmington, the bean is on your left, with a big rotating sign. (860)-231-1350

Failte Coffee House: (pronounced "fyal-che") Is at 37 West Broad Street (Rt. 518) , Hopewell NJ, right across the street from the cemetary in the middle of town. It is a big white house with a big glass window in front. To get there from I-95 and/or I-295 get off at exit 7B, which is just north of Trenton, and near the place where 95 becomes 295. Take Rt. 206 North, through Lawrenceville, and make a left turn onto Rt. 569, (Carter Rd). This is clearly marked, and there is a sign that says "Hopewell". Take this road until it ends, in downtown Hopewell. Make a left onto 518, go through one traffic light, and park your car on the street. The Failte is on your left, right across from the cemetary. If you are coming from Princeton, you can leave Princeton on Rt. 206 N (different part of Rt. 206) and make the left turn at Rt. 518, go 7 miles into Hopewell, and use directions as listed above.

The Vault: NJ Turnpike to exit 9. Get on route 18 North. When you reach New Brunswick, exit onto New Street. Once on New Street, make a right turn on Livingston. The Vault is about 50 yards down inside the Monument Hotel directly across from the State Theater.
